On behalf of and in cooperation with SAP, the official technology sponsor of CHIO Aachen, we helped contribute to the success of the world’s largest equestrian event, together with Mercedes-Benz and the equestrian simulator manufacturer Racewood Ltd.
An exclusive experience at the CHIO Aachen

At a glance
Interactive VR application
For our digital presentations, we reconstructed the entire grounds of Aachen Soers, where the eventing action takes place, in 3D. In addition, all obstacles were recreated in true form to the original. To realise this, we had to be on-site at the location to document every tree and hill. Shortly before the opening, we worked closely with the course builder in order to implement the final adjustments to our 3D world. As far as we are aware, the dimensions of the 1.5 square kilometer 3D world (partly walkable) is the largest virtually-created environment in VR. Visitors can use an innovative menu to view obstacles and quickly teleport to the appropriate locations on site. The following video gives an insight into the walk through of the area.

Innovative riding simulator
A smaller version of the terrain, serves as a virtual course for the innovative riding simulator by Racewood, England. Based on the data provided by SAP from the SAP Equestrian Analytics Live-Tracking application, we created a course based on Aachen, which visitors can ride on the simulator.
The interactive VR application and the simulator are located in the joint stand of SAP and Mercedes.
Here is a short video with Ingrid Klimke.
Video fusions
For several years, Walbert–Schmitz has worked with SAP to create video clips that ‘fuses’ data from the SAP Live Tracking application via a helmet cam. The videos have been successfully received on social networks and have already generated several million hits. Once again, we worked closely together with the SAP team this year, with content reaching well over one million people on Facebook, receiving very enthusiastic feedback.

Riders’ Corner Bar and VIP Area
As a major sponsor, SAP is also presenting itself in the “Riders’ Corner” equestrian bar, which is exclusive to athletes, and in the “Champions Circle” VIP area. We equipped the Riders’ Corner with fabric banners and created a large media wall with a small VR station. In the VIP area, we designed and built a smaller media wall with a 85″ touch screen and a self-service VR station.
